Uiwang city is located in the midwestern section of the Gyeonggi province. Because of its proximity to Seoul, Uiwang serves as a traffic hub. Surrounded by Seongnam and Yongin to the east, Anyang to the west, Suwon and Hwasang to the south, and Gwacheon to the north, the Uiwang city was officially upgraded from the appellative of a "town" in 1989. As of now, the city takes up 0.53% of the total land surface area of the Gyeonggi Province with an area of 54.4§“. The land mainly consists of 59.66% of forestland and 17.14% of farmland. It is 5.01km long from east to west and 15.5km long from south to north. As of August, 2007, it has the population of 134,276 with 49,487 households, and is divided into 6 dongas.

The average annual temperature is around 12.0”ĘC, while the average temperature during the month of January is around 2.5”ĘC below zero and that during the month of August is around 25.4”ĘC. The difference over the year is 27.9”ĘC. The Uiwang region has 1,427.7mm of rainfall on average each year.

With the Korean Railroad Museum and Korea National Railroad College, Uiwang is the focal point of Korean rail transportation. Seoul Subway Line 1 passes through the city, as does the Gyeongbu Line railroad. Because it is located at a strategic point that links Seoul, Incheon and Suwon, Uiwang is easily accessible to the major cities within a half hour through the well constructed road and rail networks. As a result, a Uiwang Inland Container Depot (ICD), which functions as a comprehensive cargo terminal and inland container base, is providing one-stop handling of metropolitan logistics, reducing transport costs and increasing convenience.

Uiwang City boasts of an environment friendly city graced by Chungkye Mountain and Baekwoon Lake. It is one of the most beautiful urban and rural compound cities in Kyeonggi-do, the central province of Korea.
